SERVPRO of Fernandina Beach/Yulee/North Jacksonville is once again a sponsor this year for the annual Katie Ride. The Katie Ride is an annual fundraiser created in 2005 to raise awareness for organ donation and support the Katie Caples Foundation nationally recognized organ donor education program. It is a premier bicycle touring event catering to cyclists of all abilities.
The 13th anniversary of the event is Saturday, April 22, 2017, which will again be held on beautiful Amelia Island, where Katie Caples called home. Despite her tragic death at age 17 in a car accident, Katie went on to save the lives of five individuals through the gift of organ donation.
More than 125,000 adults and children in the United States are currently waiting for a life-saving organ transplant. On average, 21 people will die each day in the United States due to a lack of available organs for transplant. And while 90% of Americans say they support organ donation, less than 44% are currently registered. Funds raised through this event support the Katie Caples Foundation and its mission to increase the number of registered organ donors to eliminate the wait for individuals on the national transplant list.
SERVPRO of Fernandina Beach/Yulee/North Jacksonville is pleased to participate in this very worthy cause. For more information or to participate, see www.katiecaples.org.
